SUV plows into Levittown home
A Levittown family awoke to a huge crash early Saturday morning and found an SUV had barreled into their living room.
It happened on Sherwood Drive at around 3:30 a.m. The Hallberg family tells News 12 that the crash sounded like a "sonic boom" that shook their house.
They went downstairs to find the SUV driver still inside the vehicle, revving the engine in an apparent attempt to back out. They say the driver tried to tell them not to call police and offered to write them a check to pay for the damages.
The police were called, however, and the driver, identified as 20-year-old Jesus Hernandez, was arrested on charges of DWI and unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
No one inside the home was injured, but the Hallbergs' son Matthew says he's lucky to be alive because he had been on the couch about a half-hour before the crash happened.
Hours later, the gaping hole that the SUV had left had been boarded up, but the house has been deemed unsafe. The Hallbergs cannot stay there until repairs are made, and it's estimated that the damages cost $100,000.
Hernandez has been released on bail, but is due back in court to face a judge next week.
