Suspended parking rules cause rift in Morris Park
Suspended parking rules during the holidays is causing a rift between some Morris Park drivers.
The city suspended alternate-side-of-the-street parking from Tuesday, April 3 through Friday, April 6 and Monday, April 9 through Tuesday, April 10. The changes are in effect for Passover, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Some drivers praise the Department of Transportation for helping them spend the holidays close to relatives without the interruption of having to move their vehicles for streets to be cleaned.
However, others argue drivers who get the parking spots aren't budging. "It's not fair that people park for days because everybody has a right to park," said David Casillas. Another Morris Park resident said he saw people arguing over coveted parking spots.
The group Transportation Alternatives wants the city to revisit the issue, saying not only are the suspensions aggravating, they also stop streets from being cleaned.
Parking rules will be back in effect Wednesday, April 11. The DOT explains the suspension is especially long because the holidays fell close together this year.
