The superintendent of the Patchogue-Medford School District says the multi-million dollar deficit for the district may increase.

Superintendent Michael Mostow spoke to angry taxpayers Friday about the audit, which showed sloppy bookkeeping, poor internal controls, misappropriation of funds and possible criminal conduct that led to a $4 million deficit. Mostow says the dollar amount will probably increase due to federal and state grants that will be taken back as penalties for the poor bookkeeping.

The Suffolk District Attorney?s office and the state comptroller are each conducting their own investigation into the district.
