The Suffolk County Legislature voted unanimously Tuesday to ban the sale of drop-side cribs after concerned parents and lawmakers launched a campaign.
Several parents whose children were injured or killed when they got stuck between the side rail of the crib and the mattress testified before the Legislature weeks ago.
Leg. Wayne Horsely (D-Babylon) says the ban will save lives. Ninety babies across the country were killed and 11,000 were injured by drop-side cribs in two years.
A public hearing on the ban will be held at County Executive Steve Levy?s office. A Levy spokesman tells News 12 Long Island the executive will sign the bill within 30 days.
