A pedestrian has died from injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run Monday afternoon, police say.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Deer Park Avenue at Grand Boulevard.

Witnesses say the hit-and-run driver first struck a white SUV in front of a Conoco gas station. The driver then tried to flee that crash and ended up hitting 51-year-old Robert Donohue of Deer Park.

"I just heard brakes screeching, the car jumping over the curb and then somebody going up in the air," said Olga Trioche of Bay Shore.

The victim's sneakers, eyeglasses and clothing lay in the street where witnesses say paramedics worked on saving his life.

Donohue was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police shut down a section of Deer Park Avenue as they tried to track down the hit-and-run driver.

Detectives say the vehicle that fled the scene is a dark-colored four-door pickup with possible front-end damage on the passenger side.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
