Suffolk DA: 3 alleged gang members arrested in gun sale sting in Wyandanch
Three alleged gang members are accused of selling guns to undercover investigators in Wyandanch.
The suspects have been identified as 21-year-old Jamesley Dery, 18-year-old Jahnick Gainey and 20-year-old Charles Harris. Police say undercover Suffolk officers purchased four handguns from the men at a Wyandanch gas station.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says the three men were members of a sect of the Bloods gang, called the F.A.N. He says the group has been at war with another sect, known as the Fly Boys, over drug turf and insults posted on social media. This year alone, the feud has been linked to nine shootings between Wyndanch and Amityville, according to Spota.
The DA says most of the shootings have been drive-bys, with bullets ripping into homes of alleged gang members, although a shooting outside Amityville High School after a basketball game has been linked to the feud. No one was injured in that incident.
Spota says that no witnesses would come forward in any of the shootings, which he attributes to fear of retaliation.
Dery and Gainey were arraigned on weapons charges today. Dery was held on $500,000 bond, and Gainey was remanded without bond because of a previous robbery case. Harris is expected to be arraigned at a later date.
