People with Type O blood are twice as much more likely to attract mosquitoes than someone with Type A blood, according to a study from the United States National Library of Medicine.

About 20 percent of the U.S. population has Type O blood.

People with Type AB blood are the least likely to receive a bite.

Dr. Sarah Washington, of PM Pediatrics in Mamaroneck, says there's been an uptick in patients with mosquito bites. She recommends using insect repellant with DEET to avoid the bloodsuckers, as well as wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants when in wooded areas.

Blood type isn't the only factor when it comes to mosquito attraction. Studies show that metabolism, exercise, shirt color and even drinking beer can make someone more attractive to the insects.
