A Stratford police officer accidentally shot herself at work, according to authorities.

The 20-year police veteran struck herself in the hip at the police station, police say, and no one else was injured. It may have happened during a training exercise.

Authorities say she will be retrained on handgun use.

"We do take it very seriously, and again we look into all aspects of the incident so we can determine what the causing factor was," says Capt. Frank Eannotti, of the Stratford Police Department. "Then we will address it from there."  

The officer was hospitalized for minor injuries and is expected to return to work soon. It's unclear whether she will face any disciplinary measures.
