Smithtown, Merrick schools announce staff COVID-19 cases

Smithtown schools say a staff member from St. James Elementary School tested positive for the virus. District officials say the person was last in the building Aug. 27.

Two Long Island school districts reported cases of COVID-19 Wednesday night.
Smithtown schools say a staff member from St. James Elementary School tested positive for the virus. District officials say the person was last in the building Aug. 27.
Smithtown schools are set to reopen next week. Officials say an investigation and contact tracing is underway.
The Merrick school district also informed parents of a staff member at Merrick Avenue Middle School who tested positive for COVID-19.
The district says an investigation by Nassau health officials determined that only one other staff member came in close contact with the person.
