New York state legislation could allow schools to cancel class on 'extreme heat’ days
20ds agoThis morning, the Port Washington School District says it's working on a solution to return to a five-day program for elementary students.
Parents held a rally Monday afternoon after a new plan for elementary students was unveiled.
The new, hybrid plan calls for two days in school, two days remote, and a day off in between.
Parents say they are now left scrambling to find child care just weeks before school starts.
"I'm a full-time working mom. I work in the city. My husband also works out of the house. Now we have child care issues. We don't know what to do with our son," says Lauren Weinstock.
The Port Washington School District says push back from teachers is what drove them to throw out plans for a five-day school week.
The school has now set a deadline of Oct. 5 to reach a solution.
