NY Mets partner with LI food bank to distribute school supplies

Long Islanders struggling to buy back-to-school supplies got a helping hand Tuesday from a local food bank and some special guests.
The Island Harvest Food Bank provided food and school supplies with some help from the New York Mets Foundation as families face an even bigger financial hardship due to the pandemic this year.
Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest Food Bank, says she estimates nearly half of the people they served since March have never sought food assistance before and will need assistance through 2021.
"As soon as the pandemic hit, we pivoted and changed our operation -- opened up our emergency resource center so that we can respond to people who are in need," she said.
The Mets are a longtime partner in the fight against hunger.
