Police: Utility truck strikes vehicles, kills bicyclist in Garden City

They say it happened on Stewart Avenue near the Meadowbrook Parkway in Garden City around 4:30 p.m.

Police say a utility truck struck multiple vehicles and fatally collided with a bicyclist in Nassau Friday.
They say it happened near the Meadowbrook Parkway in Garden City around 4:30 p.m.
Authorities say the utility truck hit a box truck and a pickup truck on Stewart Avenue, and then the bicyclist on Merchants Concourse.
The box truck was lifted onto its side and its roof was torn off. The pickup truck was crushed on one side of the box truck.
One woman told News 12 she saw a man shouting at police while he was getting arrested on the scene.
"Screaming out of his head for no reason in handcuffs, but he didn't have a scratch on him," says Elsa Bega.
One man in the area told News 12 that it's a notoriously dangerous area for bicyclists.
"It's dangerous to ride a bicycle on this road. At least crossing over, because the amount of traffic," he says.
The Nassau County Crime Scene Search Unit was on the scene.
Stewart Avenue closed in the afternoon and may stay that way until authorities conclude the investigation.
