Gov. Cuomo: DMV to allow driving schools to start distance learning

Gov. Andrew Cuomo was in Albany Wednesday and provided updates on New York's COVID-19 response.

Gov. Cuomo: DMV to allow driving schools to start distance learning
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that the DMV will allow driving schools to start distance learning. 
He said students will not be able to appear in person. 
Cuomo also announced that New York will be sending PPE to St. Petersburg, FL.  St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman thanked Cuomo for the support. 
Wednesday marked day 151 of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
NOTES:
-62,676 COVID-19 tests were performed Tuesday
- Infection rate: 1.1%
- 5 New Yorkers passed away
- 619 New Yorkers hospitalized - lowest since March 18
- 76 COVID-19 patients intubated -  lowest since March 15
Cuomo said the goal is to protect progress.
Issues he is focusing on include national COVID-19 rate and compliance issues.  He said local governments need to do their jobs. 
Cuomo said on Tuesday the SLA did 29 violations on bars and restaurants that were not following the law, including one in Suffolk and some in the Bronx and Brooklyn. 
He discussed the Chainsmokers concert on Long Island, and said some other issues have come to light and he is focusing on those. 
The U.S. Open for Golf for 2020 will take place at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck on Sept. 17 - 20 without fans.
