Police say hundreds gathered on a beach in Long Beach Saturday, with many ignoring social distancing guidelines and not wearing masks.
They say about 700 young people had to be removed from the beach and boardwalk near Edwards Boulevard.
The crowd was so large, the police commissioner says officers had to call Nassau County police for help.
Long Beach's police commissioner says his officers learned on social media about a large gathering that was supposed to happen at 6 p.m., but that people didn't start showing up until 9 p.m.
Police say they started getting multiple calls about the crowd around 9:45 p.m. They say many were not social distancing or wearing masks.
Despite police saying multiple code violations were committed, the commissioner says there were no arrests, no injuries and no summonses issued to ensure the crowd dispersed safely.
The police commissioner says officers cleared everyone out just after midnight.
