A nursing student at Long Island's biggest hospital system is in hot water after racist remarks she allegedly made in a private chat were posted on social media.
News 12 has learned that Northwell Health is investigating a nursing student at Southside Hospital for allegedly admitting to being a racist and making profanity-laced and racially charged statements about Spanish and Black patients at the hospital.
Northwell Health issued a statement saying, "We apologize to everyone for these unfortunate social media comments. The situation involving these social media posts is being investigated. Northwell Health does not tolerate discrimination; it promotes an environment of inclusiveness and respect for diversity."
Alpha Xi Delta also issued a statement on Facebook, "These kinds of statements and beliefs are NOT reflective of Alpha Xi Delta and the sisters in this chapter. We do not and will never condone this mindset."
News 12 went to the nursing student's Farmingdale home to get her side of the story, but when asked about the investigation, the man who answered the door asked the crew to leave.
LIU also issued a statement, saying in part that it, "condemns racism of any kind in the strongest possible terms," and went on to say the university is currently investigating this matter.
