There's a new initiative aimed at getting people back into Westbury restaurants.
Maria's Bakery in Westbury is one of 15 restaurants participating in Split the Bill NY. On June 24, people can buy their food from one of the restaurants on the list, and they will be reimbursed for half of the receipt, up to $30.
The order can be takeout, dine-in, drive-thru or delivery.
Customers need to take two photos - one of the meal and the other of the receipt - and submit the bill by 11:59 p.m. June 24 to get reimbursed.
Once it's approved, money will be sent through Venmo or PayPal.
Split the Bill NY is funded by the Sidgmore Faily Foundation.
Jess Gelbwaks and her dad, Jeff Gelbwaks, represent the Sidgemore Family Foundation.
Jeff Gelbwaks’s sister started the foundation and wanted to help give back to small businesses during the pandemic.
“She committed the $100,000 to try and help with independent local restaurants and downtowns,” says Jeff Gelbwak.
