Bellone set to sign 2 Juneteenth executive orders relating to bias training, future celebrations
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone gave his Friday COVID-19 update, speaking about actions he's taking relating to Juneteenth and announcing more drops in hospitalization numbers.
Briefing Notes:
- Bellone thanks Gov. Cuomo for his work 'delivering the facts' as his daily briefings came to an end Friday.
- Bellone speaks about the celebration and 'elevation into mainstream consciousness' of Juneteenth.
- 'The end of slavery did not mean the end of racism.'
- Bellone will sign executive order that implicit bias training for county employees must be completed by this time next year.
- Second order will set into motion events and celebrations for Juneteenth in the future.
- County has had 'good compliance' in most cases with establishments that had complaints filed against them - whether the complaint was legitimate or not.
- Bellone asked about Cuomo's complaints about the lack of compliance in the Hamptons earlier this week -- says from the outset that they saw no indication of that, says it could be more 'anecdotal.'
