A beach, a park, a marsh and more: A scenic view at Sunken Meadow State Park

A beach, a park, a marsh and more - it's your scenic view on the North Shore at Sunken Meadow State Park. There's a little something for everyone on this week's Road Trip: Close to Home.
If you want a relaxing day away, hit the beach. Enjoy the calm, clear water of the Long Island Sound. Note the shoreline is rocky, so water shoes are a good idea for your little ones!
If you are looking for a water adventure, there’s a canoe and kayak launch at Field 3.
If you like to fish, bring your fishing pole because fishing is permitted on the beach and the east creek.

Right off the beach you can stroll the three-quarter-mile boardwalk. You can enjoy sweeping views of the Long Island Sound and Smithtown Bay. On a clear day, you can even see the shoreline of Connecticut.
If you want to keep walking, find Field 3 and walk over the beautiful bridge which crosses Sunken Meadow creek. There are six miles of trails, including the northern starting point of the Suffolk County Greenbelt Trail.
And if you are really up for a challenge - go up the "Cardiac Hill." It is regarded as one of the most difficult cross country courses in the country.
You can also play a game of golf - 18 hole and 9 hole courses are available. They also have a driving range.
Take a break, and eat your packed lunch at the newly reconstructed Field 2.
