Some backlash against Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his handling of the pandemic has, in turn, been met with new backlash of its own.

Suffolk police say it is looking for a woman who allegedly used a can of spray paint to deface a giant "Impeach Cuomo" banner that is hanging in Port Jefferson.

The banner was put there by the building's owner, who did not want to speak on camera. Roger Rutherford runs the ice cream shop on the building's first floor and says he completely agrees with the message.

"Our governor is strangling businesses in our district," he says. "Many of our businesses are on the brink of going out, and we have to do something about it."

Rutherford says an employee alerted him that there was a woman spraying graffiti on the sign and that he recorded the woman on camera after she had finished.

Village officials say owner George Wallace has been ordered to take down the banner because it violates village code.

Wallace has been down this road before -- back in January, he displayed a banner in support of President Donald Trump during the impeachment process. Back in 2017, he was cited twice for the same thing.

The latest violation was issued Thursday afternoon. It's unclear if Wallace plans to cooperate, but for now the sign remains.
