Northwell Health officials say they're making significant progress toward getting Long Island back up and running, as Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the region is on track to begin reopening Wednesday.
Hospital executive Michael Goldberg tells News 12 Long Island is on the other side of the pandemic due to the changes many have made by staying home, keeping distance from others and wearing masks.
Long Island needs hospital deaths to decline for two weeks and to have 30% of hospital beds available to be able to enter Phase 1.
Goldberg says the system was nearly pushed to its limits at the height of the pandemic, but has come a long way since.
Officials are asking people to keep taking the same precautions during Memorial Day weekend as Long Island gets closer to reopening.
