Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester County executives Curran, Bellone and Latimer held a conference call on their joint response to the coronavirus.
BRIEFING NOTES:
- Bellone thanks Latimer, Curran for their partnership during the pandemic and beyond.
- Bellone: 'We have effectively flattened the curve.'
- Bellone reiterates how it's important to reopen beaches to give residents and outlet after being inside for multiple weeks. Cites tough decisions on safety procedures, capacity, keeping them to county residents.
- Curran: Rain or shine, 'we will be ready' at Nassau's beaches.
- Curran reminds people that county parks have been and are still open.
- Curran hoping to reopen public spaces/gardens like Old Westbury Gardens.
- 'People are ready - they know how to get back' says Curran about business owners after a call with people in Floral Park and Stewart Manor.
- Curran: 'The sooner we can start cranking up the engine, the better.'
- Latimer talks about they've looked to some of Suffolk's guidelines to help them as active cases have dropped.
- Westchester will open two county beaches this weekend -- Croton Point Park Beach and Playland Beach.
- Rye Playland closed through at least July, perhaps the entire season.
- Latimer says Westchester will keep beaches county-only for now, but will reassess after this coming weekend.
- Bellone says he doesn’t believe the death metric will hold the regions back from reopening.
- All 3 counties have called off July 4th events.
