Stony Brook University ranked 45th among all US universities
Stony Brook University has been ranked 45th among all U.S. universities, according to QS World University Rankings. In addition, the university was 15 among public universities nationwide and named the top public university in New York.
“This stellar showing highlights Stony Brook’s continued upward trajectory as a premier American public institution,” said Interim President Michael A. Bernstein. “I am especially proud that our diverse and global learning environment is recognized in these rankings.”
School officials say Stony Brook’s strong showing is due in part to its high score in the category of diversity and internationalization, in which it ranks No. 14 nationally.
This category includes the following indicators: gender pay gap, faculty gender diversity, ratio of undergraduates receiving Pell grants, students’ ethnicity, number of Fulbright students and ratio of international students.
“Stony Brook is an internationally recognized research university offering graduate degrees in the arts and sciences, engineering, business and the health professions,” according to the profile on the QS site. “Stony Brook faculty are leaders in national and worldwide projects, and their work has led to such groundbreaking discoveries as the invention of the MRI technology that won the Nobel Prize for [Physiology or] Medicine.”
The rankings have been released as a part of a new subset of the QS World University Rankings specifically targeting U.S. institutions. This is the first ranking of U.S.-based universities. Rankings are based on weighted scores in the categories of employability, diversity and internationalization, learning experience and research.
