488ds agoSome property tax relief is coming for struggling Suffolk residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
County Executive says the Suffolk's Municipal Finance Working Group unanimously approved a plan that provides temporary property tax relief to property taxpayers.
If approved by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the plan will give a 45-day property tax extension for homeowners that have lost 25% of their income because of the pandemic.
The same goes for commercial businesses with a net profit of 1 million or less that have suffered a 50% loss.
Late fees and penalties will be waived if taxes are paid by July 15.
BRIEFING NOTES:
- Bellone says the plan to provide property tax relief was a collaboration between towns, villages, school districts and others.
- Relief will provide "a little more breathing space" for homeowners.
- Additional 84 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours. That does not include those who tested positive for antibodies.
- 20 people in last 24 hours have been discharged from Suffolk hospitals.
- 19 more deaths in last 24 hours due to COVID-19.
- In partnership with Nassau County, business owners are being encouraged to take an economic impact survey. It can be found on Suffolk County's website.
