Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has sent a proposal to Gov. Andrew Cuomo that outlines a plan to open Smith Point County Park and Cupsogue Beach County Park beaches on Memorial Day weekend.  The proposal also includes a plan to open other beaches the third week of June.
According to the proposal, beachgoers will not be required to wear face masks when they are on the beach or in the water. However, they will be required to wear masks when in certain public areas including:
•The deck/boardwalk area
•Stairs leading to the deck/boardwalk
•Restrooms
•The concession area
•Other public areas other than the beach or water
The plan also states that individuals will be notified of the face covering policy when they enter the beaches and that everyone must maintain social distancing guidelines with the exception of people living in the same household.
Suffolk is currently meeting four of the seven metrics determined by the state to begin reopening.
