Long Island's positive cases of coronavirus continue to grow and Suffolk County says it is working to stay on top of it.

A testing facility is opening today in Coram at the Department of Health Services, and is being operating by HRHCare Community Health. This is the third testing site to open in the last 48 hours Long Island.

Coram has been identified as a coronavirus hot spot. Officials say the hot spot areas they are working in have higher minority populations, which have been identified as being most vulnerable to COVID-19.

Officials say each new location has volunteers that speak different languages that are predominantly spoken in the area, like Spanish and Polish. The effort is to inform those getting tested of ways to protect their family and coworkers from the spread of coronavirus, as well as follow-up as there are delays in testing results still.

“We know testing is important, but what really is important is the health of those patients, so connecting with them, understanding the pathology, if they need more immediate attention, we can guide them with any questions they may have,” says Sophia McIntyre, chief medical officer for HRHCare Community Health.
