Police say a man who was just released from Rikers Island pretended to be a police officer and robbed a Long Island Lowe's with a nail gun.

They say 51-year-old Sekou Shutsha tried to steal some items at the North Lawrence store Tuesday. 

Security intervened, but according to reports, he claimed he was a police officer and displayed alleged phony identification. Security told police he then said he had a gun and threatened to kill people in the store. 

"They called police. They tried to stop him from leaving. He threatened he was going to shoot everyone in the store. He pulled out from his bag what appeared to be a weapon. It ended up being a nail gun. Then he pointed it at these people. And again, he tried to get out of there," says Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder. 

Nassau police say Shutsha had recently been released from Rikers Island where he was awaiting trial for multiple other alleged crimes, and for allegedly not showing up to court.

He was charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing. 

Shutsha was arraigned Wednesday and is being held en lieu of $200,000 bond.
