Officials announced additional changes at some Long Island grocery stores in an effort to help keep residents safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stop & Shop, King Kullen, and Walmart have announced they will start restricting store aisles to one-way only.

The stores will also limit the number of people inside at one time as part of social distancing efforts.

"By instituting a one-way traffic flow and you're following arrows and you're standing at significant points throughout, you're able to space out versus everyone had that instance where your carts are running by each other," says Stop & Shop PR Manager Stephanie Shuman.

In addition, Costco has been limiting the amount of people inside their warehouses. The chain announced Wednesday that first responders would be able to cut the lines with identification.

Meanwhile, many grocery stores have also reserved special shopping hours for senior customers, who are at a higher risk of contracting the virus. Others have banned reusable bags and are offering complimentary paper bags because they don't want to cross-contaminate.
