New York City students began remote learning last week amid the coronavirus outbreak, but many of them do not have the technology at home to access their courses online.
To help, neighborhood coordination officers from the 40th Precinct in the Bronx hand-delivered laptops provided by a Mott Haven school to those students.
P.S./M.S. 5 Principal Danielle Keane says if the officers weren't here, no one else would be delivering them.
"The building's closed, so them coming and picking it up from the school safety agents and dropping them off to the families develops the relationships within the community. Police officers knocking on a door is usually not seen as something positive," says Keane.
it's a proud moment for the precinct's commanding officer.
"These guys are crime-fighters first and foremost, but they do such a great job interacting with the community. they're really the epitome of what the NCO's are supposed to be," says Deputy Inspector Robert Gallitelli, commanding officer of the 40th Precinct.
This has helped the school give 90% of its students access.
