Loved ones take extra precautions with senior citizens during pandemic

Some residents living with senior citizens are taking extra precautions during the coronavirus pandemic.
Bridgeport City Councilwoman Jeanette Herron says her 86-year-old mother, Mercedes, has a compromised immune system. Herron says she is making sure her mom is as isolated as possible, and implements strict guidelines for health careworkers entering the house.
Herron says anyone entering the home must wear masks and gloves.
Herron says her mom has stage 4 dementia, which means she does not understand the dangers surrounding her, nor can she comply with the long list of safety measures recommended for the senior population.
The CDC says families should discourage older adults from leaving the house for any reason, and to limit contact with outsiders.
