They help hundreds of animals find a home on Long Island each year - but Bobbi and the Strays couldn't complete their mission without the help of dedicated volunteers.

Dennis Kanyuk has been a volunteer at Bobbi and the Strays for over seven years.

The shelter's goal is to rehabilitate animals and get them into forever homes.

 

"A lot of people say, 'oh I could never do what you're doing, I'd want to take more home. Oh, I can't do what you do, I would cry if I had to put them back in a cage'," says Kanyuk.

He says that if people didn't volunteer at shelters, dogs would sit in cages for 23 hours a day.

Bobbi and the Strays is one of the shelters that visits News 12 Long Island weekly for the Dog Day Fridays segment - with Kanyuk introducing the dogs for the shelter.
