Police: Barricaded man exited Middle Island home, pointed rifle at officers before being shot

Posted: Updated:

Police shot a man with non-lethal rounds who they say barricaded himself inside a Middle Island home and later pointed a gun at officers.

Suffolk police say they responded to a 911 call about a person who claimed an occupant of a Bailey Road home made suicidal statements.

Police, including members of its Hostage Negotiation Team, maintained a dialogue with the man who was barricaded inside.

Police say the man eventually exited the home and pointed a rifle at officers. Police then shot the man.

The man was transported to a hospital. His condition is not yet clear.
