7 more deaths reported in Nassau; over 3,000 positive coronavirus cases

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced there is a total of 3,285 positive coronavirus cases in the county and seven more deaths. The total number of deaths stands at 17 in the county.

Curran says each of the new seven deaths had underlying health conditions. A total of 10 people are currently in critical condition.

In addition, 33 members of the police force have tested positive for the virus and 40 members are in quarantine awaiting results.

Police announced they responded to 76 locations to calls having to do with COVID-19. Officials are now evaluating patients at home, and if they are not in distress they are recommending them to stay home.

"New York state is rocked to the core by COVID-19, it is unprecedented and is an extraordinary financial burden. This crisis remains unpredictable, we don't know the end point. That is why it is so important for those who can to apply for emergency funding from FEMA," said Curran.

The funding can include for child care, purchasing medical supplies and associated costs of treating infected people. Organizations who are interested in applying should go to Nassaucounty.gov to learn more.

Another topic discussed is expectant mothers who are increasingly concerned. Officials say hospitals are dealing with space constraints, but child birth is not something they can put off. Doctors at Northwell Health say patients are still coming in regularly and delivery rooms are functioning at 100%.
Northwell is trying to maintain visitation policies to allow at least one support person with an expectant mother during labor. However, they stressed that they are constantly reviewing this policy on a daily basis.
