State officials say doctors, nurses and others on the frontlines of the COVID-19 outbreak are in dire need of medical supplies to keep them safe.
Dr. Randy DiLorenzo says Syosset Hospital has enough masks and gloves for now, but they are planning for if and when they run low.
"Some of the plastic surgeons, some of the dentists, they're not really very busy right now. Some of them have been donating certain pieces of equipment that we can use," says Dr. DiLorenzo.
Edward Wheaton, owner of M&C Relaxation Studio in Hauppauge are doing their part by donating 400 masks that were going to be left unused. He was forced to close his business for the foreseeable future.
In addition to the masks, the spa says it ordered another 1,000 masks that will also be distributed to those in need.
"They need help. They're short on all of these essential products. They need to protect themselves. If you have them, give them,” says Wheaton.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced earlier Saturday that a supply drive will take place Monday for health care workers. Those items can be dropped off at the Suffolk County Fire Academy in Yaphank.
