Rockville Centre SD tells students, staff at high school to self isolate

Posted: Updated:

In a letter to parents, the Rockville Centre Union Free School District is telling students and staff at South Side High School to self isolate until March 25.

The suggestion comes after a staff member at the school tested positive for COVID-19.

Superintendent of Schools William Johnson says the case was reported to the Nassau County Health Department, and it was their suggestion to take the precautionary measures.

Officials say according to the health department, precautionary isolation means that you are voluntarily removing yourself from contact with other people. As much as possible stay at least six feet away from others, and if possible arrange sleeping and bathroom quarters in separate areas.

In the letter, Johnson wrote, 'We know that parents and children cannot fully remain separate, but request that exposure be minimized and that personal hygienic measures be undertaken. Should you become ill, please do NOT go to a medical facility. Instead, call to arrange medical consultation or call The New York State Department of Health (888-364-3065).'
