Some major supermarkets across Long Island are making changes to accommodate the needs of seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stop & Shop has announced special hours for seniors, who are more vulnerable to the virus, that will help them avoid large crowds.
Those special hours are 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. However, seniors say even during the special hours of 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., there was nothing left on the shelves and the store was packed which made them nervous.
"It didn't dawn on me that we're all senior citizens, we're all over 60, and this is not a very healthy situation for us to be in," said Patricia Hottinger, of Smithtown.
Stop & Shop says they are trying their best to restock their shelves hourly.
