Suffolk County is now accepting calls to make an appointment for its coronavirus testing site, however, the site itself is not up and running as of yet.
County Executive Steve Bellone made an announcement during a media briefing Tuesday that Suffolk’s testing site will be up and running by the end of the week.
The number to call for an appointment is 1-888-364-3065. Bellone said when people call, a nurse will assess their situation and determine if testing is appropriate.
Also during the call, Bellone said $500,000 from the Department of Public Works’ snow removal funds will now be used for emergency response efforts. He added that the county is also accepting $700,000 from the state health department to help local health departments.
As far as local businesses, Bellone said a business services unit will be housed in the county labor department and is available to answer any calls from small business owners. He also said that the Department of Economic Development and Planning, along with the Suffolk Department of Labor are working on a business response plan that should be available in coming weeks.
Lastly, Bellone updated the number of positive cases of coronavirus in the county to at least 97. He said the cases are the result of community transmission. So far, three patients have died from coronavirus in Suffolk.
The county executive encouraged Suffolk residents to sign up for Smart911, which provides emergency responders with critical information. He says it gives the community a way to be proactive during the outbreak.
