Several stores were heavily damaged, and more than a dozen people forced from their homes after a major fire in Mineola.

The fire broke out around 8 p.m. on Main Street next to a parking garage.

Officials say at least five stores and apartments above were heavily damaged.

News 12 has been told two firefighters were treated for exhaustion.

There is no word yet on the cause.
