Stony Brook University Hospital ends visitation amid coronavirus concerns

Posted: Updated:

Stony Brook University Hospital is temporarily closed to visitors to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Patients are encouraged to communicate with family members via cellphones or other devices.

There are exceptions in pediatrics, labor and delivery, maternity and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. There will also be exceptions on a case by case basis.

The hospital did not say when it would reopen visitations.

Long Island Jewish Medical Center says no visitors will be permitted in the ER with patients exhibiting signs of coronavirus.

The hospital is limiting visitation to three-hour blocks.

To help minimize exposure to the virus as well as decrease the demand on health care systems, some physicians are turning to telehealth services where patients can speak one-on-one with their physician.
