There are nearly 350 people under mandatory quarantine across Long Island, according to offiicals in both Nassau and Suffolk County.

 

Health experts say containment is the key to keeping the coronavirus from spreading.

"Many of the cases that we see, we can trace back to people transmitting because they were out and about while they were sick,” says Commissioner of Health Dr. Larry Eisenstein.

Violating mandatory quarantine is an administrative charge in Nassau, but officials say they are serious about enforcing it.

"Mandatory quarantine is a legally binding order, if somebody violates it, they will be put into a place where they will be confined,” says Eisenstein.

Governor Cuomo said part of the current plan to battle the coronavirus pandemic is to slow the spread of infection.

"You're not going to stop the spread of the virus, it has already spread much more than you know,” he said.

Nassau county officials say their goal is to continue to identify positive cases by doing more testing and when necessary, put more people under mandatory quarantine.

Mandatory quarantine is for a person that had direct contact with an infected person and may have even tested positive for coronavirus.
