Nassau County Executive Laura Curran recommended residents avoid large gatherings and practice social distancing in an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus in the county.

In addition, Curran announced that due to the coronavirus outbreak, the county is declaring it an imminent threat to public health.

Officials in the county are currently preparing and filing necessary paperwork to the state. Curran urged that this is a precautionary measure.

Health officials say community spread is the biggest danger – with 41 confirmed cases in the county. Curran urged that as testing increases, positive outcomes will increase.

Health officials urged the community to stay home and reduce social contact – specifically with older people or those who are immune compromised.

In accordance with the county executive's restrictions on travel and group gatherings, the Jurassic World Live Tour scheduled for March 12 through March 22 at NYCB Live in Uniondale has been canceled. Customer tickets can be refunded at point-of-purchase. Customers who ordered tickets through ticketmaster.com will automatically receive a refund.

The office of the Nassau County Clerk will be closed Friday.
