The Huntington town supervisor is urging seniors to be prepared as the coronavirus continues to spread.
Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci held a news conference Monday at the town of Huntington Senior Center. Lupinacci discussed what is being done to protect the seniors, who are one of the groups most at risk.
Lupinacci says some seniors have stopped attending events at the center. He says more hand sanitizer stations have been placed in town buildings and cleaning efforts have been ramped up. He also had one piece of advice for the seniors.
"If you're used to watering down the end of your soap bottles, don't do it, right?" says Lupinacci. "Spend an extra few cents, don't waste that soap and make sure you get it down to the end, but don't water it down."
The town of Hempstead is also taking precautions and has canceled its town-run senior programs and social events through March 20. The town of Oyster Bay is also installing more hand sanitizer stations.
Doctors say any senior who has not yet had a flu shot should do so immediately since the flu is still much more prevalent.
