Ex-Hempstead superintendent taking case against district to U.S. Supreme Court

The former Hempstead schools superintendent is taking his fight with the district to the Supreme Court.

Shimon Waronker filed a petition with the high court claiming the district violated his First Amendment rights.

Waronker was first hired in Hempstead in 2017.

He claims after he raised questions about mismanagement, the district accused him of bid rigging and misconduct.

He was placed on administrative leave in 2018 and was then fired last June.

The district says it's confident it will prevail in the Supreme Court.
