UPDATE: Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the USGA has canceled local (first stage) qualifying for the 2020 U.S. Open.  While they are still holding the dates for the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club, they USGA says it will decide about qualifying at a later date. "In conjunction with our Allied Golf Association (AGA) partners and International Federations, will look to redesign qualifying going forward as events unfold."
The most prestigious golf championship in the United States is once again coming to New York. 
For the sixth time in its storied history, the 120th U.S. Open Championship will be contested at Winged Foot Golf Club (West Course) in Mamaroneck, from  June 18-21, 2020.
Since it is an “open” championship, any professional or amateur with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 1.4 can try to qualify.  About half the field will consist of players who are exempt from qualifying for the U.S. Open.  The rest of the field will be filled through the qualifying tournaments.
Online player registration for the 2020 U.S. Open will begin in the first week of March (https://champs.usga.org/index.html) and continue through Wednesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. EDT.
Local qualifying, which will be played over 18 holes at 108 sites in the U.S. and one in Canada, takes place between April 27-May 12.   Eight of those sites are in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tri-state area:

Players who advance out of local qualifying will join a group of exempt players in final qualifying, which will be conducted over 36 holes at 12 sites, nine of them in the U.S., one in England, one in Canada and one in Japan.  Final qualifying will be played in the U.S. on Monday, June 8; two sites are in Ohio and one each in California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York and Oregon.
In New York, The Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club will join to host final qualifying in Purchase for the 16th time since 1963.   
While over 9,000 entrants are expected to enter tournament, only 156 players will earn the right to play at the 120th U.S. Open Championship at Winged Foot Golf Club by being fully exempt or by competing successfully in qualifying.
