A fire broke out in the basement of a community church in Long Beach Monday.
Officials tell News 12 the fire started just before 3 p.m. in the basement and extended to a second-floor room at the Cruzada Evangelica Misionera Church located on Long Beach Boulevard.
The Long Beach fire chief says both rooms are completely destroyed. One of the rooms was used as a food pantry on the weekends and a bible study.
"We know that we're gonna be able to get up and be able to rebuild the church again and make it better for the Lord," says the Rev. Paul Colon.
Luckily no one was in the church at the time.
It took fire crews about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
