An East Meadow man is accused of stealing from Target in Westbury Thursday, then robbing his Uber driver – all while on probation.
Authorities say Genri Palacios Acosta, 35, was spotted Saturday smoking crack in a parked car in Westbury. When police tried to see what was going on, he allegedly took off, running through stop signs and red lights, and ultimately slamming into a patrol car, injuring an officer.
When he was arraigned, records show he was released to probation with an ankle monitoring bracelet.
On Thursday night, police say he took an Uber to Target and stole several items from the store. He was chased out by security, allegedly claimed to have a gun and stole his Uber driver's car.
Investigators say the suspect was tracked down quickly later that evening.
Acosta is back behind bars, facing several new charges – including robbery, petit larceny and drug possession.
Police say more charges are expected to be filed. He is scheduled to once again go before a judge Saturday.
