Families from across Long Island attended a fundraiser at Safari Adventure in Riverhead Monday in honor of 8-year-old Thomas Valva, who died of hypothermia.
Valva froze to death in an unheated garage two weeks ago. His father Michael Valva and his fiancee' Angela Pollina have been charged with second-degree murder.
Michael Valva and his fiancee have now been indicted, according to court documents.
Safari Adventure Owner Daniel Antoniou organized the fundraiser to help Valva's mom and two brothers. Local businesses donated gift baskets to raise money by selling raffle tickets.
"Not only are we trying to raise financial help for the family, the children and the mother, but to also bring awareness of child abuse, it's not acceptable," says Antoniou.
One-hundred percent of the admission and raffle money will go directly to Valva's mom and brothers.
