Police: Bay Shore man fatally struck while helping stranded teen driver in Islandia

A Bay Shore man was fatally struck Saturday evening while trying to help a teen driver whose car broke down on Motor Parkway.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. near Veterans Memorial Highway in Islandia. Police say 57-year-old Federico Oviedo was trying to help an 18-year-old whose car had broken down in the roadway when he was fatally struck by an SUV.
As the two walked to the rear of the victim's minivan to get tools, police say they were hit by a 22-year-old woman driving a Dodge Durango.
Oviedo was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen was hospitalized with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
News 12 exclusively obtained surveillance video that shows the disabled car in the moments leading up to the crash.
There's no word on any possible charges in the case.
The vehicles that were involved were removed from the scene for safety check.
