Posted: Updated:

A fire at an apartment building in Hempstead forced dozens of people out into the cold in the middle of the night.

The fire broke out around 12:15 a.m. at the Hofstra Garden Apartments on Front Street.

News 12 has been told everyone in the building had to be evacuated.

Fire officials say the fire was contained to one apartment and no one was hurt.

The Nassau Fire Marshal says the fire was not suspicious and was an accident. According to officials, it started as an electrical fire in the living room.

A total of five occupants were transported to the hospital for evaluation.
