Police say they caught the suspect who carjacked the owner of a white BMW at gunpoint.
According to police, the incident started around 4 a.m. outside of the Crunch Fitness on Center Avenue on Thursday.
Owen Watstein says he was sitting in his car in the parking lot having coffee before going into the gym. That's when he says a man came up to his window two times and asked if he was the Uber driver. Watstein says the man came back for a third time and asked to use Watstein’s phone so he could call the Uber driver.
The suspect then told Watstein to get out of the car.  Watstein says the suspect then took his wallet, cellphone and keys and took off in the victim's car.
Watstein says he then went inside the gym to call police.
A short time later Nassau police say they spotted the vehicle on North Henry Street.
Police aren't commenting yet on exactly what happened next, but one squad car crashed into a pole near Exit 25 of the Southern State Parkway and Watstein's BMW crashed into a guardrail right next to it.
The officer suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police have not publicly identified the suspect.
