After Christmas, Long Islanders took to stores and shopping malls Thursday to return or exchange gifts on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
Experts say every retail and online store has its own policy when it comes to returns and exchanges, and sometimes it's different around the holidays.
They say to check the fine print before heading to the store.
Consumer reports recommend keeping original packaging intact, or you may be charged a restocking fee, keeping receipts to ensure you will get a refund instead of store credit and bringing your ID.
Not only is Thursday the busiest day for returns, it is also the biggest sales day of the year.
Crowds were also expected in retail stores to spend gift cards they received for Christmas.
